I'm using XP, and I couldn't drag a text selection to the desktop from either FireFox or IE. Is my memory that bad? Or is this some kind of optional feature that needs to be enabled? The Zoom feature in the assistance options. I use it to zoom in on windows all of the time, like watching videos that cannot be resized, I can zoom to make it fit the window. Works great.
