Thanks for all your comments. If someone has success with this technique, come back and let everyone else know. For a bit of contrast, I now also have the automated related posts plugin running in the side bar, so I can see which one performs better. I’ll let you all know.

Yea you want to make your article “sticky” by linking to more interesting material. Most visitors ignore the sidebars and such, especially diggers.

Funnily enough, your not the first person to mention that Christine. I think I’ll have a look at it this weekend. I’m not sure about the uneven colouration, it’s all styled the same but it certainly causes problems on my FireFox, I thought it was just a local thing though.

UPDATE – I’ve tweaked the colour scheme of the site so it’s lower contrast. Hopefully that will help with readability. The inconsistent display of text appears to be a Google adsense problem(!), I’m looking into it at the moment.

Liked your suggestion on how to reduce bounce rate. Would have liked to read more on your site, but I am having trouble seeing the white type on the black background. It looks unevenly colored on my system. Wish it was easier to focus on!

That is a really nice tip, as I too have been somewhat concerned with high bounce rates on the few articles that I’ve managed to get a little big of traffic on.

Maybe I will try that on some of the high-traffic articles, if I ever get any.
