I don't know about you dweller but the one sentence I would use to describe the iPlayer is "Design by committee". And the committee obviously put things like eye candy and usage restrictions ahead of user experience. A shame really, but fairly typical of an organisation like the BBC. And the kontiki client was downright nefarious. It would continue to act like a P2P client even when it appeared to be switched off. I believe they've changed this now though.

I'm used to allowing video to stream and then grabbing the file from my browser cache to watch in
a programme like vlc player. This gives much better quality at full screen setting than the built in browser
flash player. Unfortunately for the reasons you mention above this isn't possible with iPlayer.

I downloaded the p2p kontiki thing - the installer didn't give me many options and the whole experience of the software wasn't good - ie the TV show didn't "just download" there was no connection. I had a feeling I'd have to fiddle with port settings etc. as with bit torrent. Not worth it for drm videos that'd probably switch off before I got round to watching them.

so overall I'm officially Not Impressed. If I could watch the videos from cached flash file then I would be happy.
