Skitch Invites Available

Skitch Invites AvailableI’ve been lucky enough to score a couple of invites to the much sought after Skitch Beta. For those of you not in the know, Skitch is a fairly simplistic image capture and editing application. The unique selling point of skitch is it’s tight integration with web services. You get some free image hositng at MySkitch.com as well as the options to easily upload to ftp, flickr or a range of other services. Of course, you can also just save it locally, if you want to be Web 1.0.

I’ve been playing around with Skitch for a short while and beyond the obvious integration with other services, the interface really stands out. If your taking a screen capture, for example, the rest of the screen darkens to emphasise the area you are capturing. There is also an area at the bottom of the window you can drag to other areas, such as a folder or the desktop, to save the image. When you do this the rest of the application shrinks to provide more screen real estate. The entire application is full of these really nice interface touches, many of which provide real benefits in terms of usability and productivity. The image above, as rudimentary as it is, took literally 10 seconds to capture, add text and upload to MySkitch.com for posting on this blog, or anywhere else you care to mention.

I’ll post a full review of Skitch later this week. As for the all important invites, well they are in short supply so initially I’ve only got one and it’s first come first served. Just drop a comment at the end of this post.   I may be able to get hold of some more though, so keep an eye on this post. Skitch, at the moment, is a Mac OSX application only.

Update:   As pointed out by Brian in the comments, Skitch is now in Open beta, so invites are no longer required.
